India has voted against Russian demand in the United Nations General Assembly for a secret ballot on the draft resolution condemning Moscow’s annexation of four regions of Ukraine.
Over 100 countries including India called for a public vote on the resolution while Russia appealed against the ruling of the president of the General assembly.
The latest round of voting in the UNGA was conducted on a motion moved by Albania.
The voting late on Monday took place hours after Russia carried out multiple strikes in Ukraine.
# IMF
The international monetary Fund on Tuesday projected a grim outlook for the global economy even as it cut its projection of India’s GDP growth in 2022 to 6.8% from 7%.
The IMF is downgrading its outlook for the world economy for 2023, citing a long list of threats that include Russia-Ukraine war.
The IMF left unchanged its forecast for international growth this year – a modest 3.2%, a sharp deceleration from last year’s 6% expansion.
# Supreme Court
The supreme Court on Tuesday admitted the pleas seeking “talak e Hasan” and all other forms of “unilateral extrajudicial divorce” to be declared unconstitutional.
Talak e Hasan is a form of divorce among Muslims by which a man can dissolve the marriage by pronouncing the word “talaq” once every month over a three month period.
The petitioner also sought a direction to the centre to Frame the guidelines for gender neutral and religion neutral and uniform ground of divorce and procedure for all citizens.
# Cancer
Real cancer incidence levels in India is estimated to be 1.5 to 3 times higher than reported incidence as 51 percent patients take more than a week to conclude diagnosis.
The reported cancer incidence in India in 2022 is estimated to be 19 to 20 lakh.
