# Cyclone

  • Cyclone Biparjoy is expected to dramatically tilt eastwards and head towards Gujarat according to India meteorological department.
  • The storm was likely to make landfall between Mandvi in Kutch district and Karachi in Pakistan around noon on June 15.
  • IMD has issued a red warning in Kutch, Jaamnagar and Devbhumi Dwarika
  • Tauktae in May 2021 was the last big cyclone to hit Gujarat.

# NCBC

  • Alleging discrepancies in the granting of the OBC status under the state list in West Bengal, the National commission for Backward classes chairperson Hansraj Ahir said that out of 179 OBC groups in the Bengal state list, 118 belongs to the OBC community.
  • The NCBC is probing the matter and have asked the state to fix the problem.
  • OBC category in West Bengal have been divided into Class A and Class B.
  • In class A, more number of OBC castes are listed, of which 90% are muslim castes.
  • In class B, which has less benefits, 54% are hindu castes.

# FPIs

  • Foreign portfolio investors continued their buying stance and pumped in close to ₹9800 crore in Indian equities this month so far.
  • This follows a nine month high investment of ₹43, 838 crore in equities in May.
  • The outlook for FPI inflows in the rest of the June is positive as the RBI has signalled that it will not be raising interest rates shortly.

# China

  • China has been operating a spy base in Cuba since atleast 2019.
  • The Biden administration has stepped up the effort to thrawt the Chinese push to expand its spying operation.
