# Supreme Court

  • The Supreme Court is experiencing an unusually heavy workload of PILs since Justice UU Lalit took over as the 49th CJI.
  • He has pulled out PILs gathering dust from dingy storerooms of the registry to list them along with freshly filed PILs. O
  • On Monday, as many as 228 PILs are listed for hearing before 15 benches.
  • The CJI led bench traditionally has had the lion’s share of PIL’s filed in the apex Court.

# Pakistan

  • India registered a strong protest with the US last week over the latter’s decision to approve a $450 million sustainment package for Pakistan’s aging F-16 fleet.
  • The package was denied by the Trump administration in 2018.
  • The US has said the maintenance package won’t include new capabilities, weapons and munitions.
  • Some analysts are looking at it as a reward for allowing Pakistan’s airspace for counter terrorism operations in Afghanistan.

# Rajya sabha

  • Ghulaam Ali, a Gurjar muslim from Jammu and Kashmir, was on Saturday nominated to Rajya sabha by the government.
  • This is perhaps for the first time a Gurjar muslim from region has been sent to the upper house as a nominated member.

# Indo-pacific

  • India has Chosen to opt out from joining the trade pillar of the Indo-pacific Economic framework (IPEF).
  • The IPEF has four pillars – trade, supply chains, clean energy-decarbonisation infrastructure and tax&anti corruption.
