# India – US drills

  • China has objected to the India-US military exercise near the LAC in uttarakhand saying it violates the spirit of bilateral agreement for border peace.
  • The 18th edition of the India-US joint military exercise Yudh abhyas is currently underway in uttarakhand, about 100 KM from LAC.
  • Yudh abhyaas is a bilateral training exercise, held annually since 2004 and aimed at improving the interoperability of the Indian and US armies increase partner capacity for “conventional, complex and future contingencies throughout the Indo Pacific region.
  • China has warned the United States against interfering in India China disputes.

# G20

  • The government is seeking to bring climate finance, disaster risk reduction and startups to the forefront of the G20 agenda as India begins its presidency of the group of the world’s richest countries on Friday.
  • Disaster risk management and startups have made their way into the agenda for the first time.
  • The government is keen to ensure global dialogue on building disaster and climate resilient infrastructure.

# United States

  • The US Senate passed bipartisan legislation Tuesday to protect same sex marriages, an extraordinary sign of shifting national politics on the issue and a measure of relief for hundreds of thousands of same sex couples who have married since the Supreme Court’s 2015 decision that legalised gay marriages nationwide.
  • The bill, which would ensure that same sex and inter racial marriages are enshrined in federal law was approved 61-36.
  • The bill was supported by 12 Republican senator.

# Remittances

  • Between 2016-17 and 2020-21, the share of remittances from the US, United Kingdom and singapore increased from 26% to 36%.
  • The share from the five Gulf cooperation council (GCC) countries Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, UAE, Oman and Qatar dropped from 54% to 28%.
