# Covid-19 surge

 

 

  • NITI aayog health member VK paul has said that covid-19 cases has gone “from bad to worse”.
  • India registered 56,211 new infections in the last 24 hours.
  • Maharashtra is the worst affected state in which mumbai recorded 10.48% positivity rate, pune, thane and Nagpur recorded 8.85%, 6.27% and 5.77% positivity rate.

 

 

 

# Myanmar refuge

 

 

  • Mizoram government has withdrawn a letter issued last week directing officials to not set up any camps for myanmar nationals crossing the border into India.
  • Although, union home ministry asserted that the refugees should be identified and deported.
  • Mizoram government is planning to provide employment to the refugees under the MNREGA.

# New species

  • A group of lepidopterists have added a species to the expanding list of butterflies in India.
  • There is a recent discovery of the species namely Nacaduba Sinhala ramaswamii sadasivan, 2021 in the western ghat.
  • The new taxon of lycaenid butterflies belongs to the Nacaduba genus.

  • India’s drug regulator has allowed the Astrazeneca covid-19 vaccine to be used.
  • Largest share of ‘COVAX’ remains in India, which is a WHO lead initiative.
