India expects to secure the biggest chunk of the 60 million Astrazeneca covid-19 vaccine doses that the US will share globally.
On monday the white house said 10 million doses could be cleared for export in coming weeks and the rest by june.
The Biden administration has said the government of India did not request it ready to use vaccines.
# Delhi oxygen crisis
Delhi CM Arvind kejriwal on tuesday said that the Delhi government will import 21 ready to use oxygen plants from France and 18 oxygen tankers from Bangkok.
Delhi government is also importing 18 tankers from Thailand, which will help in transportation of oxygen.
Kejriwal said that central government will install 8 plants by april 30.
# Covid-19 doses
A day ahead of opening vaccine registration for all over 18 in the country, health ministry data shows that 1 crore vaccine doses are available with the states.
Tamil nadu reported a high percentage of vaccine wastage at nearly 8.83%, only lakshadweep had a higher wastage ratio of 9.76%.
UP has the most available doses, about 1 million followed by Maharashtra with 9 lakh and Bihar which has 7.5 lakh.
# Covid-19 cases
Covid-19 death tally crossed the 2 lakh mark with 3300 new deaths in last 24 hours.
Only the US with 5.7 lakh, Brazil (3.9 lakh), and mexico (2.15 lakh) have registered a higher toll.
As many as 16.58 lakh covid tests were conducted on tuesday with a positivity rate of almost 20%.
# Asian development bank
The ADB has raised its forecast for India’s growth in in 2021-22 to 11% from 8% earlier.
A stimulus fuelled surge in the US, India’s largest export market, will support the revival.
The projections are based on data and information upto march 31.
