Justice N.V Ramana is set to take over as the 48th chief justice of India.
NV Ramana will remain CJI till august 26, 2002.
Justice NV Ramana is from Andhra Pradesh and also served as the Chief justice of Andhra Pradesh and Delhi.
# Double mutant virus
A unique “double mutant” coronavirus variant – with a combination of mutations not seen anywhere else in the world- has been found in India.
However, health ministry also informed that it is not yet established if this has any role to play in increased infectivity or in making covid-19 more severe.
This new virus variant have been established after genome sequencing of a section of virus samples by a consortium of laboratories across the country.
# Afghanistan peace deal
The taliban on wednesday rejected a proposal by afghan president Ashraf ghani to hold elections later this year.
Afghanistan president Ashraf ghani will announce the election plan at a stakeholder conference in Turkey next month.
The move is likely an attempt to undercut a US proposal, supported by Russia, for the formation of an interim government involving the Taliban to rule the country once the last US troops withdraw.
# Unfair trade practice
A parliamentary panel has recommended that the government should offer a more clear cut definition of what constitutes unfair trade practices.
Panel also said that predatory pricing by e commerce firms may result in competition being wiped out and prove detrimental to consumers in the long run.
# Vaccine export
India has put a temporary hold on all major exports of the astrazeneca vaccine made by the SII.
This decision has been taken to meet the domestic demands of India as the infections is rising.
SII is expect to supply vaccines to more than 80 countries and also to GAVI and UNICEF.
