# GDP growth

  • India’s GDP growth in the January March quarter beat estimates on the back of a strong performance in the farm, services, construction and manufacturing sectors pushing overall growth for 2022-23 to 7.2% higher than the previous estimate of 7%.
  • Data released by the National statistical office on Wednesday showed growth in January-March – the fourth quarter of the 2022-23 fiscal year was at 6.1% higher than the upwardly revised 4.5% in the previous quarter.
  • Meanwhile, government has also met 6.4% fiscal deficit target.

# Pass percentage

  • Pass percentages swing wildly from board to board, a study report by the Union ministry of education reveals.
  • In Senior secondary exams, while meghalaya has a pass percentage of 57%, the figure in Kerala shoots up to 99.85%.
  • The report notes 11 states – UP, Bihar, MP, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Karnataka, Bengal, Haryana and Chandigarh – contribute to 85% of school dropouts.
  • At 42% and 40% respectively, Science and arts have emerged as the most popular options among students pursuing higher secondary education in the country in the past decade – both up from 31% in 2012.
  • However, commerce stagnated at 14% during the same period.

# Nepal

  • Nepal PM PK Dahal Prachanda arrived here on Wednesday for a four day visit – his first abroad after taking over as PM in December last year.
  • He will hold talks with his counterpart PM Narendra Modi on Thursday, after which a number of agreements, including an energy pact are likely to be signed.
  • Prachanda (68), who is visiting India for the third time as prime Minister, will also call on President Draupadi Murmu and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar.
  • Nepal currently exports over 450 MW of electricity to India.

# ISRO

  • The much awaited Chandrayaan 3 spacecraft has landed in Sriharikota and will soon be integrated with India’s most powerful rocket, GSLV MK-III or LVM 3 for the country’s third mission to the moon in July.
  • Chandrayaan 3 consists of an indigenous lander module, propulsion module and a rover with an adjective of developing and demonstrating new technologies required for inter planetary missions.
