# Ladakh

  • Durung-Drung Pensilungpa, two glaciers in Ladakh, have retreated by 7.8 sq km and 1.5 sq km respectively from 1971 to 2019.
  • Alarmed scientists hold climate change and several other factors responsible for the melting of glaciers that feed Zanskar river through two tributaries.
  • The findings, authored by four scientists of Wadia Institute of Himalayan geology, were recently published in a journal.

# Wildlife

  • An eight year study conducted between 2014 and 2022 has documented the presence of 250 Avifauna species and two sub species at Asola Bhatti wildlife Sanctuary.
  • It includes two critically endangered species : white rumped vulture and red head vulture.
  • Two birds – streak throated woodpecker and Northern Goshawk, both himalayan birds, were first spotted at the sanctuary in 2018 and 2021.
  • Of the species documented, 115 were residents, 42 were local migrants within region, state and country, 58 were winter migrants, 18 were passage migrants.
  • There were two endangered species, eight near threatened and seven vulnerable species.

# Meghalaya

  • Conrad sangma will take the oath of office on March 7 as Meghalaya CM for the second consecutive term.
  • The next government will be a 32 legislator coalition of three parties NPP, BJP and HSPDP and independents in the 60 member legislative Assembly.
  • Sangma faced an immediate challenge on Saturday as pressure groups met in shillong and asked the two HSPDP legislators to withdraw support by Monday.

# Foxconn

  • Taiwanese contract manufacturer giant Foxconn has said it did not enter into any binding definitive agreement in India during it’s chairman India visit.
  • The Foxconn statement appeared to be in response to announcements made by the governments of Karnataka and Telangana in the past few days that suggested that large investment deals by the iPhone maker in their respective states have been finalised.
