# Quad

  • India has not condemned Russia’s actions in Ukraine yet, but it joined other Quad nations on Friday in concurring that the use or threat of use of nuclear weapons is inadmissible and in calling for just peace.
  • The leader’s statement after the Tokyo summit last year did touch upon Ukraine in a joint document though.
  • In a message to China, the Quad strongly opposed any unilateral action meant to change the status quo or increase tensions in the South and East China Sea.
  • Quad also reaffirmed commitment for a free, open, inclusive and resilient Indo-pacific.

# Sensex

  • The sensex surged 900 points on Friday following a strong rally in the US market on the back of expectations that the federal Reserve may not raise rates as aggressively as estimated earlier.
  • Strong gains in Adani stocks, which were under unprecedented selling pressure for over a month starting January 24, also lifted sentiments among dalal street investors.
  • The Sensex closed 1.5% higher at 59809 points, while the nifty gained 272 points or 1.6%.
  • Meanwhile, the rupee hit a one month high to close stronger than 82 levels at 81.97 in the interbank foreign exchange market.

# Foxconn

  • The proposed Karnataka investment is part of a major effort by Foxconn, one of the world’s largest assemblers of apple products, to move some of its manufacturing out of China.
  • India is increasingly becoming a favourite alternative destination.
  • Foxconn already has a facility in Tamil nadu that makes apple products.

# Adani

  • Adani group flagship Adani Enterprises limited said on Friday it has been declared as a preferred bidder for a bauxite block in Odisha.
  • This will help the conglomerate enter the aluminum sector in the country.
