# Arunachal pradesh

  • Fearing a Chinese threat of “water wars”, India has initiated its biggest hydroelectric project of 11000 MW in upper Subansiri in Arunachal pradesh.
  • Responding to Chinese dams coming up close to its borders in the North East, India is also expecting three stalled projects for possible allocation to NHPC after recommendations of an evaluation committee and in principle approval by ministry of power.
  • According to government sources, a 60000 MW Chinese project on the Yarlung Zangbo (Brahmaputra) planned at Medog on Arunachal pradesh on Arunachal pradesh’s border could be a cause of concern for various reasons.

# Railway budget

  • There may be big bang announcements for railways in the upcoming budget, including a plan to roll out 35 hydrogen fuelled trains.
  • Besides this, around 400-500 vande Bharat trains, nearly 4000 newly designed automobile carrier coaches and approximately 58000 wagons, all of which may be rolled out in the next three years.
  • Sources said the railway is likely to get an allocation of nearly of ₹1.9 lakh crore for 2023-24.

# School enrollment

  • Despite school closures, during the pandemic, overall enrollment figures have increased from 97.2% in 2018 to 98.4% in 2022.
  • This is the highest enrollment for the 6-14 age group, according to annual status of education report 2022.
  • The annual status of education in rural India also highlighted that now almost one third of the students from classes 1 to 8 are now taking paid private tutions.
  • Government school enrollment in this age group had seen a steady decline from 2006 to 2014 to record 64.9%.

  • The annual status of education report 2022, said the maximum decline in reading abilities was reported in Kerala, Himachal Pradesh and Haryana.
  • There is a severe drop in arithmetic levels in Tamil nadu Mizoram and Haryana.
