# Joshimath

  • Parts of Joshimath may have sunk by nearly 2.2 feet sources told on Saturday on the basis of ground investigation of affected areas carried out recently in the picturesque town, which is facing aggravated land subsidence since the beginning of January.
  • The startling figure is way above Indian space research organization satellite data survey on surface deformation which found 5.4 cm subsidence in the past 12 days.
  • The Isro report has been taken down now.
  • Survey officials said changes in ground surface can be gauged through remote sensing but what is happening below the ground needs a detailed field investigation.

# China

  • China on Saturday reported almost 60000 covid related deaths in just over a month, according to the first major toll released by Chinese authorities.
  • Only a few dozen deaths have been recorded officially before Saturday, despite evidence of crematoriums and hospitals being over run.
  • The figure refers only to deaths at medical facilities with the total number likely to be higher.

# RBI

  • Reserve Bank of India governor Shaktikanta Das has said interest rates could remain high for long if the Ukraine conflict continues to remain where it is without any new Flashpoints.
  • He also said that global supply chains have been eased compared to earlier bottlenecks and new alignment are being developed.
  • There could be a moderation of inflation going forward.

# HDFC bank

  • HDFC bank has reported a net profit of ₹12259 crore for the quarter ended December 2022.
