Following through its orders in May directing the release of life convict A G Perarivalan in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case by invoking its powers under article 142 of the Constitution, the Supreme Court on Friday used the extraordinary jurisdiction to extend the same to six other convicted for assassinating the former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi and ordered that they be also set free forthwith.
Four of the six convicts may have landed in no man’s land after the Supreme Court decision. Murugan, Santhan, Robert payas, jayakumar claim to be srilankan though they have no documents to prove it.
Congress on Friday said the decision is bad in law, “totally unacceptable, completely erroneous” and not in consonance with the spirit of India.
