# Maldives

  • Nine Indians were among 10 people who died early on Thursday when a major fire broke out in the garbage below a cramped living quarters that housed foreign workers.
  • The Maldives national defence Force said the recovered bodies included nine Indians and one Bangladeshi.
  • There were 38 migrant workers from, Bangladesh, India and Srilanka in the building with a gas cylinder next to each bed.

# US visa

  • The United States have made more visa applicants eligible for interview wavers.
  • Also for the first time US will send some of these drop box application from India Abroad for adjudication in an attempt to cut the painfully long visa wait time here.
  • This will enable consulate staff in India to tackle the massive backlog in the appointment waiting period.
  • US officials also said that visa waiting period is longer for Indians due to high demand.

# Gender parity

  • A new UN report warns that a new status check shows that the world is not on track to achieve gender equality by 2030 by keeping in mind the sustainable development Goals.
  • At the current rate it will take upto 286 years to close gaps in legal protection and remove discriminatory laws.
  • The findings are part of the progress on the sustainable development Goals.

# Goldman Sachs

  • Goldman Sachs has promoted 80 employees globally as partners.
  • This list include eight Indians, one of whom is based in Bengaluru.
