• Fugitive Indian diamantaire Nirav Modi’s appeal against his extradition to India to face charges of fraud, money laundering and tampering with evidence and influencing witness was dismissed by two high court judges in the administrative court in London who ruled that he should be extradited.
• The dismissal of the Nirav Modi’s appeal against the decision of the lower court and the UK home secretary to extradite him marks an extraordinary fall from grace for a man once dubbed as diamond king in India.
• If he does not get any relief from London, his only option is to appeal in the European Human rights Council.

# Chief justice of India

• Justice Dhananjaya Yashwant Chandrachud took oath in the name of God as he was sworn in by President Draupadi Murmu as the 50th Chief Justice of India.
• He has created a historic milestone of a father-son duo heading the Indian judiciary 37 years 2 months and 28 days apart.
• His father Yashwant Vishnu Chandrachud was sworn in as CJI on February 28, 1978 and retired on July 11 1985, holding a record tenure of seven years, four months and 19 days.

# Television channels

• The centre’s latest amendments to the guidelines for uplinking and downlinking of satellite television Channels in India has made it obligatory for TV channels to undertake “public service broadcasting” or telecast content in National and public interest on Subjects of national importance defined by the government, for atleast 30 minutes everyday.
• The amended guidelines, sanctioned by the union cabinet, say that since airwaves frequencies are public properties and need to be used in the best interest of the society.
• The guidelines for uplinking and downlinking satellite television channels in India were first put in place in 2005 and revised in 2011.

# Bharat forge

• Private defense manufacturer Bharat forge on Wednesday said its Subsidiary Kalyani Starategic systems limited has bagged an export order worth $155 million for 155mm artillery guns.
• The Baba kalyani owned company, however, did not disclose the importing country except for stating that it was in a non conflict zone.
