# Retail inflation

  • Retail inflation surged to a five month high in September on the back of stubborn food prices, triggering fears of more interest rates hike by reserve Bank of India to tame price pressure.
  • Data released by the national statistical office (NSO) on Wednesday showed retail inflation, as measured by the consumer price inflation jumped to 7.4% in September.
  • Inflation in rural areas was higher at 7.6% while in urban centers it is 7.3%.
  • Food inflation was at a 22 month high of 8.4% during the month as prices of vegetables, cereals rose.
