Veteran actor Asha parekh will be conferred the Dadasaheb phalke award for 2020, the highest recognition in the field of Indian cinema.
Union Minister and Broadcasting minister Anurag thakur announced on Tuesday.
Asha parekh, 79, will receive the award from President Draupadi Murmu at the 68th National film awards on September 30.
The recommendation to confer on Asha Parekh the Dadasaheb phalke award was taken by a five member jury comprising Asha Bhosale, Hema malini, Poonam Dhillon, Udit Narayan and T S Nagabharana.
She was the first woman to head the Central board of film certification (CBFC) from 1998-2001.
Asha parekh was conferred the Padma shri in 1992.
Dadasaheb phalke award was constituted in 1969.
