# NIA

  • In a major pan India crackdown on radical Muslim outfit popular front of India, coordinated searches were conducted by the National investigation agency (NIA) and Enforcement Directorate (ED) and local police.
  • NIA raided several locations including premises of top leaders of the extremist outfit across 15 states and as many as 110 leaders and workers were arrested for supporting terror activities in the country.
  • The arrested include PFI chairman OMA salams, national secretary and many other top post holders.

# Rupee

  • The rupee closed at a new record low of 80.86 against the US dollar.
  • Dollar gained against all major currencies as Putin’s threat of escalation coupled with a 75 basis point rate hike by US federal Reserve pushed by the demand for the greenback.
  • With the 88 paise fall on Thursday, the domestic currency has recorded its sharpest daily fall in seven months.
  • RBI has exhausted over 10% of its reserves, now at $550 billion, in defending the rupee.

# Draft telecom bill

  • The draft telecom bill has proposed bringing top social media giants Such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and WhatsApp under the ambit of telecom services license in India.
  • The central government will have the sole discretion to grant a license to an entity to operate as a telecom services provider.
  • The firms will need to comply with several obligations like providing a mandated identification of their users.

# PM Modi

  • PM Modi will visit Japan on September 27 to attend the state funeral of former Japanese PM Shinzo abe.
  • PM Modi will also separately meet Japanese PM Fumio kishida during visit.
