# Srilanka

  • The US rejected Srilankan president Gotabaya rajapaksha’s recent request for a visa.
  • Gotabaya rajapaksha’s formerly a dual citizen of US and Srilanka, gave up his American citizenship ahead of his presidential election of 2019, as law barred him from running for the post of president of Srilanka.
  • However, gotabaya has now fleed to the island nation of Maldives.
  • Mr Gotabaya is expected to resign officially on Wednesday.

# Retail inflation

  • India’s retail inflation inched lower to 7.01% in June from May’s 7.04%, but stayed stuck over the 7% mark for the third straight month.
  • Price gains also exceeded the RBI’s upper tolerance limit of 6% for the sixth month.
  • Rural inflation edged upto 7.09% from 7.08% in May.

# NASA

  • NASA on Tuesday unveiled images from the James webb space telescope, the largest and most powerful orbital observatory ever launched.
  • Nearly two decades in the making, the $9 billion infrared telescope was launched on December 25,2021.
  • It reached its destination in solar orbit nearly 1 million miles from earth a month later.

# Industrial output

  • India’s industrial output grew 19.6% in May, the fastest pace of growth in two months.
  • The overall production grows 2.3% from April.
  • The ratings agency expects IIP growth to moderate to a range of 11-13% in June.
