# Maharashtra

  • Rahul Narvekar of the BJP was elected speaker of the Maharashtra legislative Assembly on Sunday.
  • He got 164 votes against the 107 votes won by Maha vikas aghadi nominee Rajan Salvi, a Sena MLA from Rajapur in Ratnagiri district.
  • The two day assembly was convened to elect the new speaker and conduct a floor test for newly formed government.
  • In the 287 members assembly (original strength 288), the government will require the support of 145 MLAs.

# FCRA

  • The Union home ministry has amended certain rules related to the foreign contributions regulation act (FCRA), allowing Indians to receive upto ₹10 lakh in a year from relatives staying abroad without informing the authorities.
  • The earlier limit was ₹1 lakh.
  • In a notification, the ministry also said that if the amount exceeds it, the individuals will now have 90 days to inform the government, instead of 30 days earlier.
  • The new rules, foreign contribution (regulation) Amendment rules, 2022, were notified by the ministry through a Gazette notification on Friday night.

# Ant chutney

  • Weaver ants are popular among the people, mostly of the tribes, of mayurbhanj district in Odisha for the mouth watering dish made of them – the Kai chutney.
  • This savoury food item, rich in proteins, calcium, Zinc, Vitamin B-12, Iron, magnesium, potassium, Sodium, copper, fibre and 18 amino acids, is known to boost the immune system and keep diseases at bay.
  • In Odisha, scientists are now fine tuning their research to make a presentation for the Geographical indications (GI) registry of Kai chutney.
  • Weaver ants, Oecophylla smaragdina, are abundantly found in Mayurbhanj throughout the year.

# Delhi government

  • The Delhi government will be sending elderly pilgrims for Jagannath puri yatra in Odisha to its free Pilgrimage scheme.
  • According to government officials, two trains under the ‘ Mukhyamantri tirth yatra yojna’ carrying the elderly pilgrims will leave for the yatra on July 11 and July 28.
