In a big political surprise, the BJP on Thursday announced that it will support rebel Shiv sena leader Eknath Shinde as the new Chief Minister.
Former Chief minister and BJP leader Devendra fadanvis, who all believed was set to become Chief minister of Maharashtra for the third time, joined him as Deputy Chief Minister.
The trust vote of the new government will be held on Saturday.
The special session of the assembly will be held on July 2 and 3.
The speaker will be elected on the first day of the session.
# Interest rate
The government has left the interest rates on small saving schemes such as the public provident fund (PPF) and the National savings certificate (NSC) unchanged for the July-September quarter.
A hike in small savings rate was expected in the view of a surge in yields on government bonds, to which their returns are linked as per a formula.
Experts were expecting a hike in interest rates.

# External debt
India’s external debt rose to $620.7 billion at end March 2022, recording an increase of $47.71 billion over the year earlier period, reserve Bank of India data showed.
The external debt to GDP ratio declined to 19.9% at end March 2022, from 21.2% a year earlier.
