# Presidential candidates

  • India may finally get its first tribal president, with BJP naming Draupadi murmu, a Santhaal from Odisha as its candidate for top constitutional post.
  • If elected Draupadi murmu will be second woman president after Pratibha patil (2007-2012) who was backed by UPA.
  • With BJP led NDA, which is short of majority in the electoral college, confident of making up the shortfall with the help of BJD and YSRCP.
  • The anti BJP opposition block on Tuesday finally settled on Yashwant Sinha as its presidential nominee.

# Russia

  • A surge in demand from Asia for discounted Russian oil is making up for the sharply lower number of being sold to Europe.
  • Most of the additional oils have gone to two countries China and India.
  • Russia overtook Saudi Arabia as China’s largest crude oil supplier.
  • Russian oil is being sold at a steep discounted price because of the risks associated with sanctions.

# Google

  • French regulators accepted on Tuesday commitments from google to negotiate fairly with news organizations over copyright, ending a long running dispute.
  • Under the agreement, the US tech giant will provide news groups with a transparent offer of payment within three months of receiving a copyright complaint.
  • The framework is part of a process to enforce a 2019 EU law on “neighbouring rights” that sought to crack down on internet platforms using snippets of media content without paying.
  • Google had fought hard against the idea of paying for content and was fined 500 million euros.

# Unicorn

  • Sales automation saas platform Leadsquared had raised $153 million from West bridge capital in a series C funding round.
  • It is India’s 103rd Unicorn and this year’s 19th Unicorn.
