# Government jobs

• The government has decided to recruit 10 lakh people in Central government departments and ministries on mission mode by December 2023.
• PM Narendra Modi reviewed the status of human resources in all departments and ministries and instructed that recruitment of 10 lakh people be done by the government in mission mode in next five years.
• Nearly 70% of the hiring will be done by the home ministry in Paramilitary and police forces, railway ministry for technical and non technical staff, education and health ministries for faculty and non faculty staff postal department and the health ministry.
• The government on Tuesday also announced the ‘agnipath scheme’ to recruit soldiers for four years.

# Inflation

• Wholesale price inflation soared to a record high in may on the back of surging food and fuel prices.
• Latest data showed inflation, as measured by the wholesale price index, rose an annual 15.9% in May, higher than 15.1% in April and above 13.1% recorded in May 2021.
• This is the highest inflation in the new series (2011-12) and the highest since the 16% posted in September 1991.
• The annual periodic labour force survey data shows unemployment rate in 2020-21 slowed to 4.2% from from 4.8% in 2019-20.

# Air pollution

• Air pollution shorten average life expectancy in India, the second most polluted country after Bangladesh, by 5 years.
• This report has been released by new air quality life index analysis released on Tuesday.
• India had in 2019 launched its National clean air programme (NCAP) with the aim to reduce particulate matter by 20-30%, relative to 2017 level by 2024.

# Pakistan

• Pakistan has launched a massive diplomatic effort to get off the grey list of global money laundering and terrorist financing watchdog FATF.
• Pakistan needs the votes of Turkey, China and Malaysia to get off the list.
