# Gyanvapi survey report

  • The court appointed commission tasked with surveying the disputed Gyanvapi mosque complex on Thursday submitted to varanasi Civil judge Ravi Kumar Divakar a 15 page report along with 32 GB of video footage and photographs and a sheaf of maps packed in three sealed boxes.
  • In adherence to a directive from the Supreme Court, which is hearing a petition challenging the survey, the civil judge did not pass any order.
  • Sources linked to the survey said a cylindrical structure carved out of black stone in the middle of the Wuzukhana (ablution pond) resembles a shivling rather than a portion of fountain, as claimed by the anjuman intezamiya masjid that manages the disputed Gyanvapi mosque.
  • A mathura district court ruled on Thursday that a suit filed for the removal of the shahi idgah mosque was maintainable, overturning it dismissal two years ago.

# GST council

  • In a landmark decision, the supreme Court on Thursday ruled that recommendations of the GST council, hitherto regarded as obligatory, are not binding on the Union and State governments and treating them as such could disrupt fiscal federalism.
  • Supreme Court said that parliament intended for GST council recommendations to only have a persuasive value, particularly when integrated with the GST regime’s objective to foster cooperative federalism.

# Wheat production

  • The agriculture ministry on Thursday said that wheat output will shrink nearly 3% to 106 million tonnes this year, the first decline since 2014-15.
  • Agriculture ministry blamed unusual bad weather for the fall in production.
  • In February, the government projected record wheat output of over 111 million tonnes.
  • Indonesia on Thursday announced its decision to lift the oil export ban on palm oil from May 23.

# 5G

  • Telecom and IT minister Ashwini Vaishnav on Thursday visited the 5G test bed at IIT madras and successfully tested a 5G call on an indigenously developed network.
  • The test bed had been inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday.
