The newly elected Punjab government on Saturday announced 300 units of free electricity per month to every household in the state from July 1.
Chief minister Bhagwant Mann in a video message clarified that the free electricity to farmers for agriculture would also continue and there would be no rise in the power tarrif for commercial and industrial consumers.
Provision of free electricity was a key promise of the Aam aadmi party during the 2022 assembly election campaign.

Delivery of the second regiment of the S-400 long range air defence system is likely to be delayed by a few months.
Russia has assured India that it will deliver the two Talwar class stealth frigates under construction there on Schedule, the first of which is scheduled to be delivered by mid-2023.
The second regiment of S-400 is expected to be delivered by the year end.

Moscow on Saturday announced it was banning entry to Prime minister Boris Johnson and several other top UK officials, after London imposed sanctions on Russia over its military operation in Ukraine.
The Russian foreign ministry accused London Unprecedented hostile actions, in particular referring to sanctions on Russia’s senior officials.
# Jet fuel
Jet fuel prices on Saturday were raised by a marginal 0.2% – the eighth straight increase this year – to an all time high, reflecting a surge in global energy prices.
The price of Aviation turbine fuel (ATF) – the fuel that helps aeroplane fly – was raised by ₹277.5 per kilolitre.
Meanwhile, petrol and diesel prices remained unchanged for the 10th straight day after rising by a record ₹10 per litre.
