The Haryana cabinet on Tuesday approved the draft of the Haryana prevention of unlawful conversion of Religion bill, 2022.
This bill seeks to prohibit religious conversion effected through misrepresentation, force, undue influence, coercion, allurement, or by any fraudulent means.
According to the draft bill, the burden of proof ‘lies on the accused’.
The bill on the lines of recent anti-conversion laws passed in other states, proposes to make conversion by marriage an offence.
# Hijab row
The Karnataka government on Tuesday ordered closure of high schools and colleges in the state for three days after the row over dress code escalated.
The Karnataka high court, meanwhile, commenced hearing a batch of petitions questioning the ban on wearing hijab in colleges.
Students wearing saffron robs were also denied entry into the colleges.
# Covid-19
The country recorded 71550 new covid-19 cases on Tuesday.
The total number of infections has reached 4.23 crore and the active cases have crossed the 10 lakh mark.
Kerala recorded 29471 infections, followed by Maharashtra (6107) and Tamil nadu (4519) on Tuesday.
The test positivity rate has been reduced to 5.3℅.
