# Prime minister’s security breach

  • Prime minister Narendra Modi’s proposed event at Ferozpur in Punjab was cancelled on Wednesday.
  • Event was cancelled because protestors blocked the highway through which Prime Minister’s convoy had to travel.
  • The ministry of home affairs (MHA) termed it major lapse in the security of Prime minister.
  • MHA sought a detailed report from the state government and asked to take strict action against those responsible.

# Chilika lake

  • Chilika lake, the largest brackish water lake and wintering grounds of birds in the Indian subcontinent, saw a million birds, including the uncommon Mongolian gull, visiting the waterbody this year.
  • As per the water bird status survey-2022, conducted in the chilika lake, 10,74,173 water birds and 37,953 individuals were counted in the entire lagoon.
  • Last year, the count in the Chilika lake was over 12 lakh .

# Kazakhstan

  • Protestors stormed the mayor’s office in Kazakhstan’s largest city Almaty on Wednesday as unprecedented unrest in the central Asian nation spun out of control.
  • Sparked by a new year energy price increase, protestors swept across Kazakhstan in a rare challenge to the ex-soviet country’s authoritarian government.
  • The demonstrations began over a new year increase in prices for Liqeuified petroleum gas which is widely used to fuel cars in the West of the country.

# Auto retail sales

  • Retail vehicles sales declined 16% in December, which is usually a high sales month for the automobiles sector.
  • The numbers were dragged down by lower sales of passenger vehicles and two Wheelers due to ongoing semiconductor shortage and high cost of ownership, according to the Federation of automobile dealers Association (FADA).
  • Total retail sales of automobiles fell to 15.58 lakh units in December from 18.56 lakh units a year earlier.
