# Omicron

  • Global covid-19 infections hit a record high over the past seven day period.
  • Almost 900000 cases were detected on average each day around the world between 22-28.
  • Although studies have suggested Omicron is less deadly but huge number of patients may overwhelm hospitals.

# Pakistan

  • Pakistan has acquired a full squardon of 25 Chinese multirole J-10C fighter jets in response to India’s rafale fighter jet.
  • This has been informed by Pakistan’s interior minister Sheikh Rasheed.
  • The J-10C fighter aircraft has been the part of joint exercise of Pakistan and China last year.

# Bad loans

  • The RBI’s half yearly stress tests indicate that bad loans could worsen over the next 12 months.
  • But the bad loans will still be in single digit even in worst case scenario.

# Tigers

  • A total of 126 tiger deaths were recorded in 2021, the highest in a decade.
  • Data sourced from the national tiger conservation authority till December 29 this year revealed that 60 of the 126 big cats fell prey to poachers, accidents and man-animal conflicts.
  • Madhya pradesh topped the losses with 42 deaths, followed by Maharashtra (26) and Karnataka (15).

# Atal innovation rankings

  • IIT Madras topped the list followed by IIT Bombay and IIT Delhi in the latest Atal innovation rankings.
  • They were ranked in the category of centrally funded universities.
