India’s wholesale inflation accelerated to a new high of 14.2℅ in November from 12.5℅ in October.
This high inflation is led by primary food inflation that hit a 13 month high and a continued uptick in mineral, fuel and power, as well as oil and gas prices.
The Asian Development bank (ADB) has marginally lowered its growth projection for the Indian economy to 9.7℅ in 2021-22, from 10℅ estimated in September.
# Char dham highways
The supreme Court on Tuesday upheld the government’s mandate to broaden three himalayan highways, considered crucial by the Ministry of defence (MOD) for quick troop build-up along the India-China border.
The three national highways – Rishikesh to Mana, Rishikesh to Gangotri and Tanakpur to pithoragarh – act as feeder roads to the northern border with China.
These national highways are the part of the char dham highways project.
# Climate change
India on Monday voted against a draft resolution at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) linking climate to security.
India said it was an attempt to shift climate talks from the United Nations Framework convention on Climate change (UNFCCC) to the security Council and a step backward for the collective action on the issue.
The resolution was sponsored by Ireland and Niger, and it did not pass, with 12 members voting for it, India and Russia voting against it while China abstaining.
# World Trade organization
A world Trade organization dispute resolution panel has ruled against India’s sugar subsidies and in favour of complainants Brazil, Gautemala and Australia.
The commerce ministry refuted the findings of the panel as completely unacceptable to India.
The dispute dates back to 2019, when the three major sugar exporting nations challenged some of India’s policies for the sugar sector at the WTO.
