# GST

 

 

  • Gross goods and services tax (GST) revenues in August fell to 1.12 lakh crore from 1.16 lakh crore collected the previous month.
  • The revenues for August 2021 are 30% higher than the GST revenues in the same month last year.
  • The GST collections had fallen below the 1 lakh crore mark in June due to the second covid-19 wave after a nine month streak.

 

 

 

# Breakthrough infections

 

 

  • There are rising cases of breakthrough infections in India.
  • A government body said these numbers are on expected lines.
  • The number of reported vaccination breakthroughs in India are well within the numbers expected from the total number of infections.

 

 

 

# Zapad exercise

 

 

  • A contingent of 200 army personnel will participate in the multinational exercise ZAPAD 2021 being held had Nizhniy Russia from September 3 to 16.
  • 17 countries are invited for the exercise, there are nine participating countries and eight observers including China and Pakistan.
  • ZAPAD 2021 is one of the theatre level exercises of Russian armed forces and will focus primarily on operations against terrorists.

  • Demands for a caste census are emanating from different political parties.
  • Pasmanda muslim community is also demanding for caste census.
  • The Pasmanda muslim mahaz headed by Ali Anwar Ansari has announced an awareness campaign on this demand.

 

 

 

# Srilanka

 

 

  • Srilankan president Gotabaya Rajapaksa has declared an economic emergency to contain soaring inflation after a steep fall in the value of the country’s currency.
  • The emergency came into effect from midnight on tuesday.
