# Olympics update

 

 

  • Lovina Borgobain reached semifinal in middle weight category of boxing securing atleast a bronze medal.

# Excess deaths in Punjab

 

 

  • The number of excess deaths registered by the civil registration system (CRS) in Punjab ever since the Covid-19 pandemic hit, was an estimated 47,571.
  • This is 3.3 times the official reported figure of 14,450 Covid-19 deaths for the same period.
  • The figures were arrived in from the data on deaths registered month-wise in the CRS from January 2015 to june 2021 in Punjab.

 

 

 

# Google transparency report

 

 

  • Google India removed over 1,50,000 pieces of content from its social media platforms in May and June.
  • These actions were taken following complaints received from individual users, according to the transparency report released by it on friday.
  • It took removal actions on 11,61,223 pieces of content as a result of automated detection processes during the two months.

 

 

 

# Core sectors

 

 

  • Output at India’s eight core sectors grew by 8.9% in June.
  • Although the production levels seen before the covid-19 pandemic has not been reached.

 

 

 

# Fiscal deficit

 

 

  • The central government’s fiscal deficit stood at 2.74 lakh crore rupees or 18.2% of the full year’s budget estimate.
