# Recovery from fraudsters

 

 

  • The enforcement directorate has transferred assets worth 8441.5 crore rupees to public sector banks that suffered losses to the tunes of 22,585.83 crore.
  • The three fraudsters namely Nirav Modi, Mehul Choksi and Vijay mallya, who all have fled overseas after fraud.
  • The agency said it recently transferred attached shares worth 6000 crore to a state bank of India-led consortium as per an order of the PMLA special court Mumbai.

 

 

 

# Modi to meet J&K leaders

 

 

  • PM Modi will head the talks on Thursday with representatives of mainstream political parties from J&K.
  • This is seen as an attempt by central government to settle a ” political equilibrium” with regard to the union territory.
  • This comes 22 months after the passage of the J&K reorganisation act ,2019, removing the special status of J&K and spliting the erstwhile state into two union territories.

 

 

 

# Kerela capital death trend

 

 

  • Unlike other cities in India which registered excess deaths during the first and second covid-19 waves, Kerela’s capital Thiruvananthapuram recorded a decrease in the number of overall deaths.
  • This data has been accessed by “The Hindu” through a RTI application from civil registration system data.
  • Compared with the pre-pandemic years (2015 to 2019) when the city corporation registered an average 16,652 deaths while in 2020, despite the pandemic, only 14734 deaths occured.
  • The reduction in deaths is believed due to fewer road accidents and effective public health response during pandemic.

 

 

 

# Donation by electoral trusts

 

 

  • Over 76% of the donations made by the electoral trusts, which submitted their annual reports for 2019-20 to the election commission of India and declared to have received funding, went to the BJP.
  • This information has been released by association for democratic reforms, an NGO working for electoral reforms.
  • While the BJP got the largest share, the congress received 31 crore, followed by the AAP with 11.26 crore.

 

 

 

# Vaccination drive

 

 

  • India administered over 63.2 lakh doses of covid-19 vaccines on wednesday.
  • The seven day rolling average of daily vaccinations in the country continues to increase. It stood at 46.6 lakh on june 22.
