The centre has placed fresh orders for 44 crore vaccine doses of covishield and covaxin, which will be available from August-December.
It has also placed an order for 30 crore doses from Hyderabad based Biological E for its in development protein subunit vaccine.
All together 74 crore doses have been secured for use from August onwards.
# QS world university rankings
JNU has entered the top 1000 of the QS world university rankings for the first time.
Overall there are 22 Indian institutions in the top 1000 list compared to 21 last year.
IIT Bombay maintained its position as the top Indian institution for the fourth consecutive year. It stands at 177th position.
IIT Delhi (185th) overtook the Indian institute of science, Bangalore (186th rank).
# Covid cases
India recorded 88,747 new covid-19 cases and 2128 new deaths on Tuesday.
Nearly 18.73 lakh samples were tested in the country on monday, with TPR at present is 3.8%.
Nearly 33.64 lakh vaccine doses were administered on Tuesday.
# Covaxin
Ocugen INC, the US partner for Bharat Biotech’s covid-19 vaccine, announced the payment of $15 million upfront to the Indian drug maker for extending the vaccine rights to Canada.
In a regulatory filing, Ocugen said it had agreed to pay another $10 million within a month from the commercial launch of Covaxin in Canada.

India’s economy is expected to grow by 8.3% in the fiscal year that began in April 2021.
The world bank has released its forecast in its June 2021 Global economic prospects released on Tuesday.
