# Maratha quota

 

 

  • A five judge constitutional bench of the supreme court on wednesday unanimously declared a Maharashtra law, which provides reservation benefits to the maratha community.
  • This reservation take the quota limit in the state in excess of 50%, which is unconstitutional.
  • Supreme court also said that the centre alone is empowered to identify socially and educationally backward (SEBC) and include them in the central list for claiming reservation benefits.

 

 

 

# Third wave is inevitable

 

 

  • A third wave of covid-19 is inevitable, given the amount of virus in circulation, this is said by principal scientific advisor to the government of India.
  • There is, however no clear timeline on when this third phase will occur.
  • The current covid-19 surge may peak to start  tapering between the middle and end of may.

 

 

 

# US to send vaccines

 

 

  • US president joe biden said countries that receive vaccine will receive them by july 4.
  • India and Brazil are likely on that list.
  • US had entered into an agreement with Canada and Mexico in march to share 4 million vaccine doses of the Astrazeneca vaccine.

 

 

 

# Textile exports

 

 

  • Textile and apparel exports in 2020-21 are almost 13% less than the previous year.
  • This data has been revealed by cotton textiles export promotion council.
  • The exports were worth $29 billion last year as against $34 billion in 2019-20.
  • Exports of ready made garments declined 20.78% last financial year.
