# UAPA cases

 

 

  • There has been over 72% increase in the number of persons arrested under the UAPA act in 2019 as compared to year 2015.
  • In 2019, highest number of such cases were registered in manipur (306), followed by Tamil nadu (270), J&K (255), Jharkhand (105), and Assam (87).
  • The highest number of arrests in the same year were made in UP (498), followed by manipur (386), Tamil nadu (308).

 

 

 

# Environment regulator

 

 

  • The supreme court on tuesday asked the government to explain why it had not set up an independent environment regulator to oversee green clearances.
  • The supreme court had ordered the setting up of a national environment regulatory body to ensure independent oversight of green clearances way back in july 2011 in lafarge cement vs union of India case.
  • The supreme court also found that the wildlife board of India has not met in six years.

 

 

 

# National social assistance programme

 

 

  • The centre must increase the “meagre” pensions provided for poor senior citizens, windows and disabled people.
  • This has been recommended by the parliamentary committee on rural development in its report submitted to the loksabha on tuesday.
  • The national social assistance programme (NSAP) is responsible for providing pensions to senior citizens, widows and disabled.

 

 

 

# Delhi’s budget

 

 

  • About 25% of total budget of 69000 crore has been set aside for education.
  • Delhi government has aimed to replace the whole public transport in delhi to electric and pollution free.
  • Delhi government has proposed to set up a model digital school, first of its kind in the world.

 

 

 

# India-uzbekistan

 

 

  • A exercise Dustlik-ii between India and uzbekistan will be held in India.
  • The army will showcase its counter insurgency and counter terrorism skills.
  • India has a series of joint exercises scheduled in the next financial year beginning april 2021including with central asian republics like kyrgystan and kazakhastan.
