# Farmer’s protest

 

 

 

  • Farmer unions said that the talks with government can be resumed if conducive atmosphere for talks is created.
  • CM of punjab Amrinder singh called on all party meeting on 2nd February to evolve consensus on the issue of the farm laws.

# Census

 

 

 

  • The centre is on track to push the 2021 census to 2022 on account of the country’s continuing preoccupation with covid-19 pandemic.
  • The census exercise was to be conducted in two phases.
  • The house listing and housing census were scheduled to happen from april to september 2020 and population enumeration from February 9 to February 28 ,2021.
  • The first phase of the census and the updating of the NPR were initially to be rolled out in some states on April 1, 2020, but were postponed due to pandemic.

 

 

 

 

# Little Andaman

 

 

 

  • A plan for the sustainable and holistic development of the 680 square KM, fragile little Andaman island in the Andaman and Nicobar group of islands has raised the alarm among conservationalists.
  • The sustainable development of Little Andaman island vision document” is the NITI aayog’s proposal to leverage the strategic location and natural fatures of the island.
  • They will be developed as a free trade zone and will compete with singapore and hong kong.

 

 

 

 

# GST

 

 

 

  • GST collections hit a record high in january, with inflows of nearly 1.2 lakh crore.
  • This is 8% higher than previous year’s corresponding month.
  • This is the highest indirect tax collection for the exchequer since the GST regime was launched.

 

 

 

 

# 3 language policy

 

 

 

  • The union ministry of Home affairs has said the three language policy is not applicable to offices of the union government.
  • The union ministry gave this response to a question filed under the RTI act on the recent CRPF event at Bhadravati in Shivmogga district.
  • In this event, the plaques which were unveiled to mark the foundation stone laying ceremony were only in English and Hindi.

  • A panel of doctors to decide on termination of pregnancy beyond 24 weeks as proposed in the medical termination of pregnancy (MTP) is unfeasible.
