# GST collection

 

  • Gross revenues from the Goods and services tax (GST) crossed 1 lakh crore rupees for the second month in a row, with 1,04,963 crore collected in november 2020.
  • This was 1.4% higher than a year ago.
  • Cumulatively, the GST revenues from the first eight months of 2020-21 add upto 6,64,709 crore, reflecting a 17.4% dip from the 8,05,164 crore collected in the same period of 2019-20.
  • The consequent good GST collection in last two months will reduce the shortfall in GST compensation dues to the states.

 

 

# Farmer’s protest

  • Talks between the centre and the farmers demanding a rollback of three farm sector legislations ended inconclusively on 1st november.
  • The lines of communication between the protestors and the government stayed open, however both sides agreed to meet again on 3rd november.
  • The farmer leaders were asked to submit a detailed critique with their specific objections to the new laws by 2nd december.
  • Many canadian leaders including their PM Justin Trudeau commented on the farmers protest in India which was denounced by Ministry of external affairs (MEA).

 

 

# Coronavirus vaccination

 

  • The Health secretary Rajesh Bhushan said that their is no need for universal vaccination in India.
  • Mr. Bhushan said that it is important to discuss such scientific issues based on factual information only.
  • Vaccination would depend on the efficacy of the vaccine, and purpose is to break the chain of virus transmission.

 

 

# Hyderabad civic polls

 

  • Only 35.8% polling was recorded in Greater hyderabad municipal corporation (GHMC) till 5 pm on 1st october.
  • Last Hyderabad civic polls had recorded approx 45% voter turnout.
  • Counting and results of the elections will be declared on 4th December.

 

 

# Indian economy

 

  • The purchasing managers index (PMI) touched 56.3 in november, after hitting 58.9 in october, the highest in over a decade.
  • This PMI above 50 shows an expansion in industrial output.
  • Power consumption growth slowed to 4.7% at 98.37 billion unit in november amid the onset of early winter.
